In February 1945, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Soviet leader Joseph Stalin met at the Yalta Conference in Crimea.
At the time, World War II in Europe was still being fought, but Nazi Germany was nearing defeat. The three Allied leaders gathered to discuss the final stages of the war and major questions about what would happen to Germany and Europe afterward.
The meeting became one of the most famous diplomatic gatherings of the 20th century, and these historic images captured Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin — the leaders widely known as the “Big Three” — sitting together in the same frame.
